Just wow!

Didn't stay, but will be returning for a couple of nights.
Happened to call in for a drink, but there was a private party on, it was the the first birthday of the hotel, we were welcomed and fed, what a fantastic atmosphere, a disco, the food we tasted was first class, the hosts were warm, friendly and welcoming, we remembered it in its previous life, what a change, great decor, can't wait to return, and if you're a real ale drinker, great, we'll kept beers on pumps too.

Hotel ok, restaurant terrible

The property itself is so well appointed and the hosts upon arrival lovely, the room a superior was well spacious and exceptionally clean. There was no soft close on the doors however so the bashing of heavy doors was an issue with noise but bearable. The bar was buzzy and friendly. However, the restaurant, and the waiting on staff was pretty dismal, I will add my husbands food was ok, however he would eat dog food (very unfussy) so take of that what you will, I ordered the ham hock terrine, the tiniest portion, and brought with the stalest slice of dry bread with NO butter to even moisten the sad slab of bread, now, the main, peppercorn chicken, my goodness, it was boiled water with peppercorns thrown in is my best description. I told the waitress upon taking the starter away about no butter, I would have collared another waitress but after delivering our starters I didn’t see another until the younger blonde girl took them away and said she would tell the “chefs”, I was then asked after delivery of the mains “have we everything we need” from the older waitress so clearly she was trying to say, I know you have mentioned no butter at the starters so I’m going to be passive aggressive! I then didn’t have a check back on the mains and simply pushed my whole meal to the side to then watch the floor team walk past our table several times with absolutely unbothered that I had eaten a few mouthfuls and left it as it was a joke that a chef had ever deemed that sauce and indeed chicken to leave their kitchen. All that said, all they needed to do was come up and say, really sorry, is there anything else we can replace it with? Would you like a different sauce? Is there anything else I can do? But no, upon clearing the plates and me raising the issues all I got was “il tell the management” but no management had the gumption to come over and just make it right, all it would have taken, is a different meal or alternative offered and an apology. As no one came over to discuss it or even offer a different meal we left and went over the road to another pub who fed me! I’d say, for the price, stay, but certainly don’t eat as there is no customer service in the restaurant at all! The floor staff need to be trained to deal with issues, address them and make them right and not act like ostriches with their head in the sands, simply changing my main or sauce or attempting to make it right would have been more than enough.

Great place to stay

Lovely friendly welcome by hosts. Great quiet room with good fittings and features. Amazing breakfast. All owners and staff exceptionally friendly. A great location to explore the area. We would definitely return to this hotel in the future. Good high street with other places to eat as well.

great gem in Yorkshire

Location is great and with secure parking. We had excellent rooms, the reception and overall service was really good, the hosts were very welcoming. The restaurant food both in the evening and breakfast was wonderful. The bar was well stocked and overall made to feel very welcome

Tasty food, friendly staff

Had a wonderful evening meal at Middle House. A warm welcome as we were asked where we would like to sit. We chose the bar where there was a lovely open fire burning. We were promptly asked what drinks we would like. The food we ordered was well presented, hot and extremely tasty. My husband is Coeliac but was very well catered for. We would definitely recommend Middle House.
