Bad week at an otherwise good hotel
The hotel lobby is undergoing signficant renovations at this time (week of Feb 10, 2025). Standard free hot breakfast is being served in the mornings, but there is nowhere to sit and eat it. You need to take your food up to your room. Pretty inconvenient if you're trying to fuel up before a workday.
The workout room is not available at all. Entrance to the hotel is currently at the back of the building and there is minimal parking available for guests, due to the placement of several dumpsters supporting the renovation.
You're not supposed to enter through the side doors because of the ongoing work. Due to heavy rain and non-availability of parking, I went up to my 3rd floor room via the east stairs. There were rolls of carpet being staged ON the 2nd flight of stairs. It didn't quite hit me until the next morning, the significance of this observation:
The stairs are how guests are supposed to exit in the event of an emergency. If there's a fire, I have to use the stairs. And they're cluttered up with carpet rolls.
As I was checking out (two days early, to move to a property that was functioning normally), I asked the staffer at the front desk to please ensure workers don't continue storing supplies on the stairs. She looked surprised and offered that she could try to have the stairs blocked off. I pointed out that the stairs are the fire escape for guests. It took a moment, but she got it and promised to address it.
I hope that's been taken care of. I have enjoyed staying at this Hampton Inn in the past, and I recognize that a renovation is a temporary situation. But you should take the time to notify guests beforehand that the advertised amenities aren't going to be available. And please... don't ever block the stairs. If there's ever a fire, it could literally mean life or death for your guests.
